Couple hit by lightning while on a walk reunites with good Samaritans who helped
The Walengas say four good Samaritans and first responders helped save their lives after the strike, and Clare recovered from short-term memory loss.
- On Sept 2, Aaron Walenga and Clare Walenga survived being struck by lightning while walking on the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden, Florida.
- Aaron and Clare, who work at Foundation Academy, were walking when the lightning struck; Aaron recalled seeing no visible lightning or hearing thunder before the incident.
- Michael Sachetti Weyand and other Samaritans rushed to assist, performing CPR on Clare before first responders arrived; Weyand stated, "I've never done CPR before in my life, but in that moment I knew that I had to start."
- The Walengas spent a few days at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where Aaron's facial wounds healed and Clare overcame concussion-related memory loss.
- Now leaning on their faith, the couple plans to return to the West Orange Trail once ready, as Clare said, "The gift of life that we have is just so beautiful.
