- On Tuesday, Chhindwara district reported the death toll rose to 16 after two more children died, with officials linking fatalities to Coldrif cough syrup.
- Earlier this month, drug control authorities found Coldrif samples adulterated with over 45% diethylene glycol, while the permissible limit of DEG as an impurity is 0.1%.
- Madhya Pradesh Police formed a Special Investigation Team and arrested Chhindwara-based paediatrician Dr Praveen Soni; around 600 cough syrup bottles were found, with 443 recovered.
- On Monday, the Madhya Pradesh state government suspended two drug inspectors and a deputy director of the Food and Drugs Administration and transferred the state drug controller amid the investigation.
- Amid regulatory scrutiny, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said, `After the Gujarat Drugs Controller intimated that Respifresh TR, 60 ml syrup, was not of standard quality, the state Drug Control Department has ordered the immediate ban on the distribution and sale of the syrup`.

Nagpur: Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Tuesday said a total of 20 children from the state have died so far while undergoing treatment for kidney failure after drinking a contaminated cough syrup.
