Coroner identifies alleged Montreal shooter as 25-year-old man from Alberta
Quebec investigators say the 25-year-old suspect from Alberta was linked to a manifesto as separate criminal and watchdog probes continue.
- On Tuesday, the Quebec coroner identified Seth Scott Hatfield, 25, of Lethbridge, Alta., as the alleged shooter in Monday's fatal incident at a Montreal Hilton hotel.
- Following a 911 call, Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher reported that officers were met with gunfire upon arriving at the hotel in the Côte-des-Neiges district on Monday morning.
- Killed in the incident were Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane and 68-year-old bystander Michel Mizrahi, whose death was confirmed by The Israeli Consulate in Montreal.
- The RCMP is investigating whether Hatfield authored a manifesto encouraging violence against police, while Lethbridge Police conducted a high-risk search at a Lemoyne Crescent home on Tuesday.
- Quebec's police watchdog and provincial police have launched parallel criminal probes, and coroner Martine Lachance has been mandated to investigate the circumstances of the deaths.
