Coronation Street Legend Confirms They Will Leave ITV Soap in New 'Explosive' Scenes
Claire Sweeney said her exit storyline will be explosive as she leaves after three years to play Miss Hannigan in Annie.
Actress Claire Sweeney has completed her final scenes on the ITV soap Coronation Street, confirming her departure to star as Miss Hannigan in the upcoming stage tour of Annie.
Sweeney joined the show in 2023 as Cassie Plummer, the estranged mother of Tyrone Dobbs, and was involved in major storylines including a plot involving Ken Barlow and a romance with Steve McDonald.
Reflecting on her three years on the cobbles, the 55-year-old actress said she felt "very blessed" and "emotional" about leaving cast members including Alan Halsall, Simon Gregson, and Kate Ford, whom she described as family.
Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks confirmed Cassie's departure will occur this summer, with Sweeney teasing that the storyline is "explosive" and "the most wonderful exit storyline" fans could expect.
While the character's final arc remains under wraps, production officials noted Cassie will continue making her presence felt in Weatherfield until her eventual onscreen exit later this summer.
