Donald Trump's new tariffs against about 70 states came into force on Thursday. Switzerland, for which a tariff of 39 percent now applies, is particularly affected. Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter's lightning visit to Washington could no longer avert this heavy blow for the export-oriented Swiss industry. The state press licks the wounds.
The Swiss delegation is back from their emergency trip to the US. The tariffs cannot avert them. Trump and his trade minister Lutnick are not even available for talks. Nevertheless, the small, export-oriented country does not want to rely on retaliation measures.
