- On Thursday, the French maritime transport group CMA CGM's Maltese-flagged vessel Kribi crossed the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first known transit by a major European shipping group since March 1.
- Iran has virtually blocked the Strait of Hormuz since February 28 following military strikes spearheaded by the United States and Israel, reducing commercial crossings to a trickle.
- Navigation data shows the vessel utilized an Iranian-approved route near Larak Island, a corridor dubbed the "Tehran Toll Booth" by leading shipping journal Lloyd's List.
- Early Friday, the ship was off the coast of Muscat, Oman, still broadcasting "owner France" on its transponder system in the field usually used for destination.
- Beijing expressed "gratitude" Tuesday after three ships, including two owned by state-owned shipping giant Cosco, passed through the strait while signaling neutrality to reduce targeting risks by Iran.
