The French government confirmed on 24 August that it was planning to extend the aid for fuel to the professional sectors hard hit by the rise in pump prices. Maud Bregeon, the government spokesman and minister responsible for Energy, said on LCI that the aid would not end as originally planned. Fuel prices remain above 2 euros per litre, largely due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
