Construction businesses account for one in seven calls to national debt helpline

Last year, construction businesses accounted for almost 15% of callers seeking help with debt and the threat of insolvency, according to new data from national charity the Money Advice Trust, which runs Business Debtline.

Companies in construction have much more to do than before. The order books of residential construction companies fill up particularly strongly.

According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), real (price-adjusted) order intake in the main construction industry rose by 5.2% in January 2025 compared with December 2024. The struggling German construction industry is starting the year with strong growth. Residential construction is particularly up. At the same time, concerns are growing over the recent interest rate hike.

Real incoming orders in the construction sector rose by 5.2 percent in January 2025 compared with December, adjusted for calendar and seasonally effects.
