Germany Under Threat From Extremists, Foreign Powers: Security Service
Germany’s domestic security agency said Russia is using saboteurs and other states are driving espionage, while right-wing extremism remains a larger threat than far-left violence.
In Berlin, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt presented the BfV annual report, warning that Germany faces mounting threats from Foreign powers and polarized domestic groups, including Nazis and Right-wing extremists.
Russia remains the greatest external threat, BfV head Sinan Selen said, noting that Moscow employs a full spectrum of hybrid tools to carry out sabotage, illicit interference, and disinformation operations across Europe.
Right-Wing extremist groups remain a larger threat, the report states, with focus on 'xenophobic' violent crime including anti-Muslim and Anti-Semitism targeting.
State actors, particularly Iran and other organizations, target Jewish and Israeli individuals using 'methods akin to state terrorism, such as attacks, abductions or killings' to pursue Critics.
Dobrindt urged 'very quick' government action on proposals to grant Germany's intelligence agencies expanded powers and lift strict limits on covert operations.
According to the Federal Office for Constitutional Protection, the number of extremists who are ready for violence in Germany has increased, according to the annual report for 2025, presented by Federal Minister of the Interior Dobrindt and Constitutional Protection President Selen in Berlin.
