New England Ship Company Admits to Dumping Oil Waste in Gulf of Mexico
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, JUL 16 – Eagle Ship Management admitted to illegally dumping over 10,000 gallons of oily waste and obstructing justice, facing a $1.75 million fine and four years of probation with audits.
Yesterday, Eagle Ship Management LLC pleaded guilty to violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, admitting deliberate oil discharges near New Orleans.
A crew member sent a social media message on March 14, 2021, revealing that flooding caused by a botched repair led to illegal oil discharges at Southwest Passage of the Port of New Orleans.
Court documents show the company falsified logs, with approximately 39 cubic meters of oily waste discharged, bypassing required pollution prevention equipment and recordkeeping.
The prosecution cited violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, while Assistant U.S. Attorney G. Dall Kammer and Senior Litigation Counsel Richard A. Udell led the case under the pollution act.
In the coming weeks, the court will set penalties including audits, with sentencing scheduled for October 16, 2025, and a potential $1.75 million fine and four-year probation.
