Conde Nast Traveler Readers Name Chicago ‘Best Big City’ for 10th Year in a Row
Nearly 800,000 voters again ranked Chicago first, and city leaders plan a Saturday celebration and local promotions to build on tourism momentum.
On Tuesday, Condé Nast Traveler named Chicago the best big city in the United States for the 10th consecutive year, with nearly 800,000 readers voting in the annual survey.
Chicago's tourism sector generated a record $21.5 billion in 2025, welcoming 56.8 million visitors and supporting 135,360 local jobs as domestic tourism increased across the region.
To celebrate the "perfect 10" win, the city proclaimed October 10 "Best Big City Day," with Choose Chicago hosting festivities Saturday featuring house music pioneer DJ Lori Branch near City Winery Chicago Riverwalk.
The award helps counteract negative national attention, including President Donald Trump's September 2025 "Chipocalypse Now" social media campaign depicting Chicago as a war zone.
City officials aim to maintain momentum into next year by promoting new attractions like the Obama Presidential Center in Woodlawn and the forthcoming immersive tunnel at the Shedd Aquarium.
