The CNV trade union is positive about new security measures implemented around the "infamous" Emmen-Stadskanaal bus route, which runs via Ter Apel. Asylum seekers use the route, and the number of incidents has risen sharply recently, bus operator Qbuzz reported earlier this week. These incidents include intimidation, threats, and physical violence against bus drivers, according to the CNV.
The shuttle bus between Emmen station and the asylum seekers' center in Ter Apel will now be free. Transport company Qbuzz announced the measure as part of a new safety package, after bus drivers faced "impactful and very unpleasant situations" in recent months. The free rides are intended to eliminate disputes over fare payments.
Public transport agency Qbuzz hopes that the measure will result in fewer incidents.
