State Approves Gas Tax Holiday Reimbursements for Local Governments
State officials said reimbursements will cover April and May losses, with more than $38 million going directly to counties, cities and towns.
- On Tuesday, the Indiana Board of Finance unanimously approved transferring more than $121 million to local governments to reimburse revenue lost during the gas tax holiday from April 8 through May 31.

- Lake County Councilman and Lake County Republican Party Chairman Randy Niemeyer called the transfer "a no brainer," noting that local communities depend on this revenue for essential road repairs and improvements.
- State Comptroller Elise Nieshalla stated that local governments will receive funds within 2 to 3 days, with all payments for the initial two months expected to be completed by November 1.
- Officials plan to seek additional Board approvals at future meetings to cover remaining months of the tax holiday, which expires August 6th as experts warn gas prices will soon start inching higher.
