Whole genome sequencing improves tissue-of-origin diagnosis and treatment options for cancer of unknown primary
Genomics can inform both tissue-of-origin (TOO) and precision treatments for patients with cancer of unknown primary (CUP). Here, we use whole genome and transcriptome sequencing (WGTS) for 72 patients and show diagnostic superiority of WGTS over panel testing (386–523 genes) in 71 paired cases. WGTS detects all reportable DNA features found by panel as well as additional mutations of diagnostic or therapeutic relevance in 76% of cases. Curated …
Genomic testing aids precision therapy and tissue of origin identification for cancers whose primary site is unknown
A new study highlights the potential of whole genome and transcriptome sequencing (WGTS) to improve precision treatment and identify the tissue of origin for cancers whose primary site is unknown, also called cancers of unknown primary (CUP).
“I never planned my career to be where I am now”: Muzz Haniffa on riding pillion, seizing opportunities and her vision for the Cellular Genomics programme - Wellcome Sanger Institute Blog
Professor Muzlifah “Muzz” Haniffa, Head of Cellular Genomics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, takes us on a ride of serendipitous discovery both personal and professional, leading us to a new ambitious vision that will apply learnings from space, time and context, much like life itself, to cells and tissue ecosystems that impact health and disease.
Comprehensive genomic testing aids precision therapy and tissue of ori
A new study highlights the potential of whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing (WGTS) to improve precision treatment and identify tissue of origin for cancers of unknown primary (CUP). The study was led by Associate Professor Richard Tothill of the Rare Disease Oncogenomics lab at the Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine, a joint venture of the University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The research was also a coll…
