GOP chairman threatens Clintons with contempt of Congress in Epstein inquiry
House Oversight Chairman James Comer threatens contempt proceedings against Bill and Hillary Clinton after over four months of ignored subpoenas in the Epstein investigation.
- On Friday, House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer warned he would begin contempt proceedings against former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ahead of depositions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
- After a July vote by the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee, Comer first issued subpoenas on Aug. 5 alongside eight other people, including the Clintons, as part of the child sex trafficking probe.
- Documents and committee statements indicate Bill Clinton, former President, appeared in Jeffrey Epstein's flight logs and traveled on Epstein's private jet multiple times for Clinton Foundation trips, while Comer's press release said the Clintons 'appear to be the only individuals that intend to defy these subpoenas.'
- Comer warned of severe consequences if the two do not show up, saying the Clintons could face jail time for contempt of Congress, while Democrats have latched onto the issue.
- It has been more than four months since the Clintons were subpoenaed, while Jeffrey Epstein returned to top headlines earlier this year, increasing scrutiny of the investigation.
