Xfinity Yanks NewsChannel 5 From Its Lineup During a Contract Dispute
Comcast said 19 major network affiliates and 21 other stations were affected as the companies failed to reach a new carriage deal.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Comcast Xfinity removed 39 Scripps Media-owned local TV stations nationwide after their distribution agreement expired without a new deal in place.
Comcast alleged Scripps made "unreasonable" demands that would significantly increase subscriber costs, while Scripps stated it has been negotiating in "good faith" for a fair agreement.
The disruption impacts viewers in 19 markets, including Detroit, Miami, and Denver, cutting off access to local news, weather, and Florida Panthers games mid-broadcast.
Scripps recommends affected customers use antennas, station websites, streaming apps, or alternative cable and satellite providers to access programming during the blackout.
Comcast continues to work toward restoring programming with fair pricing and terms, though no timeline has been established for the channels' return to the lineup.
