Faith Winter Found to Be at Fault in Crash that Killed Her, Sheriff's Office Determines
Sen. Winter's blood alcohol content was 0.185%, more than twice the legal limit, and investigators found her responsible for the three-vehicle crash that killed her.
- On Nov. 26, State Sen. Faith Winter, 45, Broomfield Democrat, was killed after rear-ending a pickup on Interstate 25 near Dry Creek Road and was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Toxicology results from the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office found Winter's blood-alcohol level was 0.185%, well above Colorado's legal limit of 0.08%.
- Investigators said Winter's Hyundai Ioniq 5 rear-ended a stopped Ford F-350 flatbed truck in the left lane, which lacked visible rear taillights though it had been driven with due regard.
- Authorities concluded Winter was at fault, and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office announced no criminal charges will be filed; the Senate District 25 Democratic vacancy committee will decide her replacement next week.
- Her family and colleagues said she had struggled with health and substance use, sought treatment after an intoxicated appearance last year, and was remembered at memorials earlier this month at the Colorado Capitol.
