Colorado State Apologizes to BYU for Derogatory Chants as 11th-Ranked

- During the game, fans were heard chanting ' the Mormons.' The school stated, 'Mocking anyone's faith has no place at CSU,' and confirmed they are addressing the behavior with students.
- BYU head coach Kalani Sitake downplayed the event, telling reporters he knows 'amazing people' at Colorado State and refuses to 'judge the entire fan base on a few' based on the incident.
- Such incidents have become increasingly common in recent years; USC , Oregon , Providence , and Cincinnati issued similar apologies, while Colorado faced a $50,000 Big 12 fine in 2025.
- Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark previously emphasized the need for education among student-athletes to address recurring behavior. The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints discourages using 'Mormons' as a substitute name.
