Israel and Colombia agree to restore full diplomatic ties
Incoming officials agreed to restore relations, drop travel visas and withdraw Colombia’s support for the International Court of Justice case against Israel.

- The agreement reverses policies of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who severed ties with Israel in 2024 amid the war in Gaza and expelled Israeli diplomats.
- Minister Bula and Foreign Minister Gideon also agreed to exchange ambassadors, abolish visa requirements for citizens, and expand Israeli development assistance through MASHAV.
- President-Elect Abelardo, who defeated left-wing candidate Iván Cepeda in June, pledged to open the embassy as among his first acts in office.
- Colombia historically maintained close cooperation with Israel in trade and agriculture; the Foreign Ministry is now appointing a new ambassador to Bogotá before the August 7 inauguration.
