Political tension escalated again in Colombia after official senator Alexander López was the victim of an armed attack on the Pan American road, between Popayán and Cali; President Gustavo Petro initially denounced an alleged kidnapping attempt and claimed that armed men fired at one of the trucks in the legislator's security scheme.
Senator Alexander López detailed that a group of armed men, allegedly members of the FARC, fired rifle bursts at one of the vans in their security scheme as they moved along the Pan American road between Popayán and Cali, in the south-west of the country.
A convoy carrying a senator and a mayor was fired upon by members of drug gangs on Tuesday, the president writes.
