Colombia achieved its worst historical performance in the Democracy Index developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, by lowering 13 positions in the global ranking between 2024 and 2025 and losing its status of imperfect democracy to be classified as a hybrid regime, just one step above authoritarian systems. The country was ranked 73rd worldwide and eighth among 19 nations evaluated in Latin America, with a rating of 6.04 out of 10.
