Quebec police solve murder of Pamela Harvey after 47 years
Genetic and forensic testing identified Pamela Harvey, missing since 1978, as the 1979 Quebec homicide victim; suspect believed responsible died the same year, police said.
On Tuesday, the Greater Sudbury Police Service and Sûreté du Québec announced the positive identification of Pamela Harvey, whose remains were discovered in Saint-Eustache, Quebec, in 1979, 47 years after she vanished.
Harvey, 23, vanished from her Lloyd Street apartment in Sudbury on November 16, 1978. Investigators suspect she held knowledge of a murder committed days earlier by Leonard Daoust, a member of the Coffin Wheelers biker gang.
Preserved evidence from 1979 enabled modern forensic analysis using DNA samples provided by family members in 2018. A forensic odontologist confirmed the match in 2025, linking the Saint-Eustache remains to Harvey.
Police determined the individual responsible for the homicide died in 1979. The collaborative investigation provided closure to Harvey's family after 47 years of uncertainty, though authorities declined to name the suspect or provide specific details.
Investigators noted, 'Her life mattered and she will always be remembered.' This case reflects the unwavering perseverance of investigators who maintained evidence for nearly 50 years to ensure answers were found.
