Coca-Cola Resumes Fairlife Milk Production After Hackers Shut Down Plants
The company said hackers obtained certain data, but product quality and retail availability have largely remained unaffected.
On Monday, The Coca-Cola Company announced that its Fairlife subsidiary has "resumed the majority of production" at four United States facilities after a ransomware attack halted operations for over a week.
The ransomware group Anubis claimed responsibility for the July 16 breach, which forced the shutdown and resulted in the theft of "certain data" from Coca-Cola's tech systems.
Retail availability of Fairlife products remained "largely unimpacted" during the disruption due to existing inventory, and the company stated that product quality and safety "have not been impacted."
Coca-Cola believes the incident has not had a material impact on its financial condition and continues to work with law enforcement and "outside advisors and cybersecurity experts."
The breach illustrates growing cyber risks facing manufacturers, as attackers increasingly target the food and beverage sector where operational technology systems are connected to digital networks.
