- On Monday, the Indian Coast Guard rescued 23 crew members from the Belize-flagged MT Seagull 9 after the vessel issued a distress call 37 nautical miles off Paradip, Odisha, following engine failure and rapid ballast tank flooding.
- The vessel sent an urgent distress signal at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday after its main engine failed and rapid flooding caused the tanker carrying 9,000 metric tonnes of palm oil to tilt dangerously.
- Responding to the emergency, the Indian Coast Guard Ship Vishwast deployed a Damage Control Team that used submersible pumps and sealed damaged seawater pipelines to stabilize the vessel, said Chief Public Relations Officer Commandant Amit Uniyal.
- Following stabilization, the Paradip Port Authority tug Dolphin towed the tanker toward anchorage, while units maintained strict pollution-response protocols after a minor palm oil sheen was observed on Sunday.
