Co-op to open new store in North London amid cyber attack recovery
Co-op plans to open 51 new and refurbished stores across the UK as part of a £200 million investment program amid recovery from a major cyber attack this year.
- This month Co-op Group will open 14 new stores, including its first permanent retailer at Brent Cross Town, North London, with 50 stores set to open or reopen by Christmas.
- Recovering from a damaging cyber attack in April, the Co-op said hackers impersonated workers, which impacted sales by about 206 million, prompting new store openings.
- Co-Op, which has around 6.9 million member-owners, will invest more than £200 million across its more than 2,500 food stores in the UK.
- On Monday the group urged the UK Government to reform business rates ahead of the autumn Budget, saying it is vital for the 99% of retailers who run small stores to plan with confidence.
- Each new site will offer member price savings, parcel collection and rapid delivery through Co-op’s online shop and partners including Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
