- On Oct. 23, Christiane Amanpour, 67 and CNN chief international anchor, disclosed that her ovarian cancer has returned for a third time on the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast.
- Medical experts note that Dr. Angela George said Amanpour has a 'fairly rare' ovarian cancer under 10% of cases, and 'most women, by the time they get a diagnosis, might have had the cancer for three or four years before it actually gets diagnosed'.
- Following her initial treatment, Amanpour underwent major surgery 10 days after her initial diagnosis and 18 weeks of chemotherapy, and she is now on immunotherapy with daily pills and hospital infusions every six weeks.
- Amanpour said 'I have it again, but it's being very well-managed, and this is one of the whole things that people have to understand about some cancers' to explain her reason for going public and the support she received.
