The oil industry in Ecuador is experiencing an acute crisis. The main pipelines have been paralysed for fifteen days due to heavy rainfall in the province of Napo, which has accelerated the retrogressive erosions of the Coca and Loco rivers, forcing the transport of crude oil and the construction of new variants for the pipelines.

The Government set a date for the return of operations of SOTE and the refiner to Esmeraldas, in an oil crisis that has been spreading since June.

Ecuador faces an unprecedented energy crisis following the temporary suspension of the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System (SOTE) and the Heavy Crude Pipeline (PCO), which have forced the closure of more than 2,000 oil wells in the Amazon region. This measure has led to a fall in domestic crude oil production of more than 85%.
