FIA launches Audi investigation after Freddie Slater incident
The FIA is reviewing whether Audi released Freddie Slater unsafely after a cooling fan was left in the car and he was called back twice.
The FIA has launched investigations into two separate incidents during Friday's Mexican Grand Prix practice sessions, involving the Audi team and a collision between Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson.
During his first Formula 1 practice session, 18-year-old Freddie Slater drove for Audi before stewards investigated an unsafe release caused by a cooling fan left in the sidepod of the R26.
A collision between Verstappen and Lawson at Turn 13 left debris on the track, triggering a red flag during the second practice session and damaging both vehicles.
Following the incident, Verstappen criticized Lawson's driving as "not smart," suggesting the newcomer should behave more carefully while fighting to secure a Racing Bulls seat for 2027.
Contention for Racing Bulls' two available seats for 2027 remains unresolved, with Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov all in contention after the latter's Friday practice debut.
