Around 10,000 people are expected to turn out for a climate demonstration in Stockholm on Sunday, according to Swedish police and organisers, just weeks ahead of a general election where the issue is among voters' top concerns.
In power since 2022, the right-wing government led by Ulf Kristersson, supported by Sweden's Anti-Immigration Democratic Party, has been pinned on several occasions by a commission responsible for ensuring the implementation of the country's climate targets. Sweden has set itself the goal of reducing transport-related CO2 emissions by 70% by 2030 from 2010 levels and achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
