Climate driven model explores Neanderthal and modern human overlap in Iberia
Berlin, Germany (SPX) Dec 19, 2025 Researchers at the University of Cologne have developed a simulation model to examine how Neanderthals and anatomically modern humans may have encountered each other on the Iberian Peninsula during the Palaeolithic. The work focuses on the period between roughly 50,000 and 38,000 years ago, when the first modern humans entered Europe and Neanderthal populations were still present in the region.
