Russia accused of drone attack on marked UN aid convoy
The convoy was delivering aid to civilians and the UN is investigating after Russian FPV drones hit clearly marked vehicles twice, officials said.
On Thursday, Russian drones struck a vehicle carrying United Nations official Tom Fletcher in Kherson during a humanitarian mission, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
Attacks occurred shortly after a deadly night of strikes across Ukraine; on Wednesday, shelling in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa left five people dead and 70 injured.
"Russians could not help but know which vehicle they were attacking," Zelensky stated; fortunately, all nine mission members were evacuated unharmed.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirmed the convoy operated under prior coordination with both sides, and Newsweek has requested further comment.
Vladimir Putin told a Victory Day parade last Sunday that the war was "coming to an end," yet experts warn Moscow has not budged from its original war aims.
In Ukraine, a UN convoy has been attacked. Recordings currently circulating on X are intended to show the attack from the perspective of Russian FPV drones.
