The jury in Bruges has found a 26-year-old mother guilty of infanticide in the death of her newborn daughter, Preciosa. According to the jury, there was no premeditation. Preciosa died immediately after birth on January 1, 2023. The defense argued that it was merely a case of fatal child neglect, but the jury did not accept this argument.
Claudia De Carvalho (26) was found guilty of infanticide on Thursday evening in the Bruges Assize Court. The nursing student dumped her newborn baby Preciosa in a garbage bag after giving birth in the attic. “Everything indicated that she had no intention of keeping her child: she did not buy any clothes and did not choose a name.” However, according to the jury, there was no question of premeditation.
