- Historically, the sculpture has been a protest target, vandalised during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and climbed on by trans activists last year.
- Authorities cordoned the site on Friday morning and cleaning crews were at work in Parliament Square, while the Met Police was approached for comment.
- With statutory penalties, the government now has clearer grounds for prosecution since last summer, when it criminalised climbing the monument and added it to the protected monuments list.
