- Responders arrived around 10:23 a.m. after reports of a gas odor, and congregants said they called a propane company about a suspected leak; the building was heated by propane cylinders.
- A Boonville firefighter entered the church during the response and was inside when the explosion occurred; the firefighter and one civilian are in critical condition at Wynn Hospital, Utica.
- Officials said the church sustained catastrophic damage and is considered destroyed, and authorities secured the scene with no indication of criminal activity, closing roads at Potato Hill Road and Kerwin Road.
