Chris Brown pleads not guilty to lesser assault charge following alleged bottle attack
LONDON, MAY 16 – Chris Brown, 36, faces grievous bodily harm charges for an alleged unprovoked bottle attack at a London nightclub, with trial preparations ongoing for October 2025.
On July 11, 2025, 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to additional accusations tied to a bottle assault incident at a London nightclub.
The charges relate to an incident in February 2023 at a private members' venue called Tape in Mayfair, where Brown is accused of assaulting Abraham Diaw.
Diaw was reportedly hit with a bottle and then chased to another part of the nightclub where he was repeatedly punched and kicked; the incident in 2023 was captured on video surveillance.
Brown paid a £5 million security fee for conditional bail, has performed on a European stadium tour, and is scheduled for trial on October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court.
Brown’s denial of all charges and continued tour activity highlight ongoing legal proceedings that could impact his career and court appearances.
The facts date back to February 19, 2023 at the Tape. The artist is accused of beating "Abe" Diaw at the bar with a bottle, then chasing him and beating him.
In 2023 Chris Brown attacked a man with a bottle in a London nightclub. In court, the R&B singer denies this. Now he also rejects further charges of violence.
