China to buy at least $17 billion in US agricultural products annually, White House says

The deal builds on last year’s soybean truce and restores access for U.S. beef and poultry exporters, the White House said.

  • On Sunday, the White House announced China committed to purchasing at least $17 billion of U.S. agricultural products annually through 2028 following meetings between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing last week.
  • In the wake of the summit, China restored market access for U.S. beef by renewing expired listings for more than 400 facilities and agreed to resume imports of American poultry with U.S. regulators.
  • These new agricultural purchases are in addition to soybean commitments made last fall; U.S. agricultural exports to China fell 65.7 per cent year-on-year to $8.4 billion in 2025.
  • While the Chinese Ministry of Commerce noted plans to mutually cut levies on certain products, Trump told reporters Friday he and Xi "didn't discuss tariffs" aboard Air Force One.
  • Beyond agriculture, both leaders agreed to establish a US-China Board of Trade and a US-China Board of Investment while confirming shared goals on North Korea's denuclearization and maintaining access to the Strait of Hormuz.
