China Tells Israel It Must Stop Settling West Bank by Force
Wang Yi said China backs a two-state solution and urged immediate access for Gaza as more than 2 million Palestinians face a humanitarian crisis.
- On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
- Foreign Minister Wang also held talks with Palestinian counterpart Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, stating the Palestinian issue should not be marginalized and that China will continue to support the Palestinian cause.
- During the meeting with Herzog, Wang told Israel to stop and reverse its "forced establishment" of West Bank settlements, calling the Palestinian question a major historical injustice.
- Wang urged "all peace-loving countries" to support the "two-state solution," adding that the immediate priority is to fully open access to the Gaza Strip to stop a humanitarian "catastrophe."
- Peace and reconciliation remain the "cornerstone" of China's Middle East policy, and the nation is willing to work with the international community to push all parties toward a political settlement.
