China Launches Large-Scale Military Drills Around Taiwan
The drills involve coordinated multi-force exercises with live fire and blockades, responding to recent $11.1 billion US arms sale and regional diplomatic tensions, officials said.

- Amid rising rhetoric after Japanese prime minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks, the Eastern Theatre Command said drills began 11 days after the U.S. announced $11.1 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, `This serves as a serious warning to 'Taiwan Independence' separatist forces and external interference forces`, said Shi Yi.
- The PLA deployed fighter jets, bombers, UAVs and long-range rockets while Taiwan's defence ministry reported 89 Chinese military aircraft, 14 military vessels and 14 coast guard boats operating Monday, and China released `Shields of Justice` posters and a military video showing robotic systems.
- Taiwan's defence ministry mobilised troops and warned forces are on high alert for rapid response exercises, while Taiwan coast guard dispatched ships and Taiwan's aviation authority sought alternative routes for Tuesday's 10-hour danger zone.
- The live-firing will spread across a record seven zones on Tuesday, marking the largest drills closer to Taiwan, while analysts warn they blur training and attack preparations, raising escalation risks.

China launched its most extensive war games around Taiwan on Monday to showcase Beijing's ability to cut off the island from outside support in a conflict, testing Taipei's resolve to defend itself and its arsenal of U.S.-made weapons.
