India, China Agree on Eight-Point Roadmap to Strengthen LAC Border Management
India and China agreed to two new hotlines, two extra commander meeting points and a rivers-data meeting as they seek to ease border tensions.
On Tuesday, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing for the 25th round of Special Representative talks, reaching an eight-point consensus to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control.
Doval and Wang reaffirmed the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles, which serves as the framework for resolving the China-India boundary question and stabilizing bilateral relations.
Both sides agreed to establish two new military meeting points and hotlines in the Eastern and Middle Sectors, while increasing cooperation on trans-border river data and pilgrimage access to Mount Gang Rinpoche.
Ahead of the September 12 BRICS Summit, officials confirmed the 26th Special Representatives' meeting will occur in India in 2027, with Chinese President Xi Jinping expected to visit after a gap of seven years.
Negotiators committed to advancing discussions on "an early and substantial harvest of boundary delimitation," though neither side has clarified which specific sections of the border are currently under consideration for delimitation.
