Codelco Wins Partial Approval to Restart Copper Mine in Chile
Codelco secured the approval of Chile’s mining authority to resume some underground activities at its biggest copper mine, a week after a fatal accident led to work being halted. Labor regulators still need to sign off on the plan.
On Friday, in its seventh report, Codelco reported that it temporarily suspended contracts with contractor companies that were doing work in the collapse zone that left six workers dead in the El Teniente Division, in the O’Higgins Region.In its most recent report, Codelco noted that “the temporary suspension of contracts with contractor companies directly related to the event was formalized, at least until August 13th.”
