Children's book explores Vancouver Island from the eyes of a curious cat

Haley Healey, a high school counsellor, released a children's book titled Huxley's Island Adventures on Vancouver Island in 2025.
She was inspired by her love of pets, books, and nature and designed the story around a curious cat getting lost on a camping trip.
Healey mapped a route for the cat’s journey through recognizable Vancouver Island locations, including Rathtrevor Beach and Cathedral Grove, and included a nature guide on local plants and animals.
The book features illustrations by Kimiko Fraser, an artist from Victoria who employs watercolor, ink, digital techniques, and tea in her artwork. A launch event for the book took place on April 26 at the Country Club Centre.
The book is available in local stores such as Windowseat Books and Fireside Books, and Healey plans a similar marine-environment themed book next.
