Children injured after roof ripped off double-decker bus in Lancashire
Around 30 children were assessed and eight treated for minor injuries after a double-decker school bus hit a low bridge, ripping off its roof, police said.
- On Wednesday, December 3 at around 12.30pm a school double-decker bus struck a low bridge on Spendmore Lane, Coppull, ripping off its roof.
- Thirty children were aboard the bus returning from a swimming class, and it is thought they were pupils from Wood Fold Primary School, Standish near Wigan.
- Officers said a number of children suffered injuries that are thankfully thought to be relatively minor and are being assessed by paramedics while police confirmed all passengers were safely taken off the bus.
- Police warned the road remains closed from Lancaster Street to Regent Street on Spendmore Lane, and paramedics transported an eight-year-old boy to hospital with a head injury.
- Wigan Council are preparing a statement, and police said they will update the public once the road reopens; Morris Quality Bakers sheltered about 20 pupils upstairs and offered cookies.
