Child Dead, Two Critical in Horror Stabbing
On Thursday, police confirmed a second child, aged one, died in hospital following an alleged stabbing in Sydney's Blue Mountains on Sunday; a five-year-old sibling died at the scene, while a three-year-old remains critical.
Emergency services discovered the mother and three children with stab wounds in a vehicle on Waratah Road in Valley Heights on Sunday; detectives charged the 42-year-old woman with murder and two counts of wounding with intent to murder.
Cyclists discovered the scene and alerted authorities while members of the public performed first aid on the family. The father was at work when he received news of the alleged attack.
The mother remains in custody after being refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Penrith Local Court on November 20. She faces an additional murder charge following the one-year-old's death.
Investigations continue, with Acting Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna stating there is no clear rationale for the incident's location. This marks the fourth domestic violence murder reported across New South Wales that weekend.
