Chiefs stick with embattled Harrison Butker for Jets game after another costly miss in Denver
Coach Andy Reid said Butker will be active after the Chiefs signed Justin Tucker and Butker missed his 16th kick since last season, the most in the NFL.
Coach Andy Reid confirmed Wednesday that kicker Harrison Butker remains active when the Kansas City Chiefs play the New York Jets on Sunday. "Harrison will be up, yeah," Reid said.
The decision follows a 28-24 loss to the Broncos last weekend, when Butker missed a 54-yard attempt. It marked his 16th miss since last season, the most in the NFL over that span.
Kansas City recently signed All-Pro Justin Tucker to the practice squad, though Butker said he "enjoyed talking with him." Despite strong practice work, Butker noted, "doesn't matter—you've got to make them in the game."
Mansoor Delane returned to practice Wednesday after missing time with shoulder injuries, while Kingsley Suamataia could return after a coach's decision sidelined him. Peter Woods remained out with a neck stinger, Reid said.
The Chiefs are widely expected to pursue a wide receiver before next week's trade deadline. Coach Andy Reid deferred to general manager Brett Veach, saying, "Just see where it all goes.
