These 5 Guns Should Be Handed in Now or Owners Face Prosecution
Cheshire Police urge residents to surrender Bruni blank-firing guns convertible to lethal weapons; over 70 seized nationally linked to crimes including five homicides since 2023.
- Cheshire Police launches a four-week amnesty from February 2 to remove Bruni-manufactured blank-firing firearms, with helpdesks at Warrington, Widnes, Blacon, Crewe, and Macclesfield open 8am–5pm. The campaign is backed by the NCA, following tests showing these models can be converted into lethal weapons.
- NCA testing found specific Bruni models can be converted into lethal firearms using household tools, and criminals have been known to paint and convert these devices to resemble live weapons.
- Authorities note that over 70 recovered Bruni devices have been linked to at least five homicides since 2023, with last year’s amnesty returning more than 40 guns and 16 received in February 2025.
- Owners of TVBFs may surrender weapons anonymously at police stations during the amnesty, and police advise transporting weapons out of sight, directly to a station, or calling 101 for guidance.
- Police warn the five Bruni models will be illegal from March, and possession after February 28 risks prosecution and up to 10 years in prison; owners are urged to hand them in soon.
