In September this year, the landslide dam on the Mataian River in Hualien overflowed and collapsed, destroying the Mataian River Bridge on Provincial Highway 9 and causing temporary traffic disruptions. Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai inspected the progress of the project on the 22nd and announced that the temporary steel bridge will be opened to traffic one month ahead of schedule on January 1st next year.
