Berlin has the election again - after the re-election in 2023, 2.5 million people in the capital are again called to vote. That is still possible until 6 p.m.
Parliamentary elections are being held in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a largely rural area in the former communist and less prosperous east of the country, and in the capital, Berlin. The vote comes two weeks after the anti-immigrant and Russia-friendly AfD party scored an electoral victory in Saxony-Anhalt, giving it its best chance yet to form the first far-right regional government since World War II.
In Germany, people went to the polls for elections in the states of Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In Berlin, Elif Eralp, the Left Party's candidate for chancellor, would become the first chancellor of immigrant origin if she wins the election.
