OpenAI launches a general purpose agent in ChatGPT

ONLINE LIVESTREAM EVENT, JUL 18 – OpenAI's ChatGPT Agent autonomously handles complex tasks using a virtual computer, blending browsing, coding, and third-party app integration to boost productivity for paid users.

  • On July 17, 2025, OpenAI released ChatGPT Agent, introducing autonomous task automation.
  • Building on earlier experiments, the ChatGPT Agent integrates Operator and Deep Research and runs on a reinforcement learning–trained model.
