Reporters Without Borders, the SNJ and the SNJ-CGT appealed to the highest administrative court for the application of the European regulation on freedom of the media. An urgent suspension hearing was held on Thursday 12 March.
After the acquisition of Challenges, Sciences and Future and La Recherche by LVMH, the Conseil d'État was referred to the National Union of Journalists (SNJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF), who denounce a dangerous concentration. The decision after the hearing, which took place on Thursday 12 March 2026, is expected to take place in a few days.
On 12 March, RSF, trade unions and the editorial staff of Challenges, met before the Council of State to call for the application of European law on freedom of the media. The purchase of the weekly newspaper at the end of 2025 raises problems of pluralism.
While the luxury group wants to impose a "liberal" line on the economic weekly, the discussions must begin this Thursday. At Sciences et Avenir, threatened with heavy savings, almost the entire editorial would already be on the start.
