Channel 4 Axes 'Entertaining' Comedy After Just 1 Series Despite BAFTA Nomination
Rosie Jones said the six-part series will not return as Channel 4 cited routine programming reviews after a 4.6 IMDb rating from 301 reviews.
Channel 4 has cancelled the British sitcom Pushers after one series, despite critical acclaim and a BAFTA nomination for star and co-creator Rosie Jones.
Created by Jones and Peter Fellows, the series broke ground by featuring a majority-disabled cast and following a woman with cerebral palsy who resorts to dealing drugs after her benefits are cut.
The Independent hailed Pushers as a "madcap triumph," praising its "clever observational comedy that skewers attitudes to disability" after it aired in June last year.
Jones announced on Instagram, "Pushers is not coming back for a second series," while Channel 4 stated they regularly make "difficult decisions on which shows to rest, return or conclude."
Aimee Lou Wood's BBC comedy Film Club will also not be returning, with the decision reported on Monday as mutual, signalling a broader industry trend of cancellations.
